Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive skin treatment that uses fine, sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the skin’s surface. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process, encouraging the production of collagen and elastin. As a result, microneedling helps improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and skin texture.

The procedure can be performed on various areas of the body, with the most common treatment areas being the face, neck, and décolletage. If you’re looking to target a specific concern such as skin elasticity, scars/stretchmarks, hair thinning and enjoy youthful, radiant skin without the need for surgery, Microneedling could be a perfect solution. Combined with our Derma Range products (please see our Derma page for product information) and you have the ultimate treatment.

What is it?

Microneedling procedure uses a dermaroller or a motorized pen-like device with a set of fine needles. These needles are carefully rolled or stamped across the skin in a systematic pattern. The depth of needle penetration is customised based on your skin’s condition and the treatment goal. After the treatment, the skin's healing process begins, and new collagen and elastin are formed. This results in smoother, firmer, and healthier-looking skin.

The procedure is generally well-tolerated, with some patients experiencing mild discomfort or a sensation of skin tightness. Topical numbing creams are often applied before the procedure to ensure a more comfortable experience.

Benefits?

  • Improves Skin Texture & Tone. Microneedling can reduce the appearance of rough patches, large pores, and other surface imperfections.

  • Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles. Microneedling helps address the visible signs of aging, particularly fine lines and wrinkles. By boosting collagen production, it restores skin firmness and elasticity, making the skin appear more youthful.

  • Treats Acne Scars and Other Scarring. Microneedling is especially effective in improving the appearance of acne scars. The collagen-boosting process helps repair damaged skin, flattening and reducing the appearance of scars. It can also improve the appearance of stretch marks, surgical scars, and other types of scarring.

  • Enhances Skin Absorption of Products. The micro-channels created during microneedling allow for deeper penetration of skincare products, such as serums or hyaluronic acid. This enhances their effectiveness, providing a more hydrating and rejuvenating effect.

  • Safe for Most Skin Types. Microneedling is suitable for a wide variety of skin tones and types. Unlike other treatments such as chemical peels or laser therapies, which may not be appropriate for darker skin tones, microneedling is generally safe and effective for all skin types.

  • Reduces Hyperpigmentation
For those struggling with uneven skin tone or pigmentation issues, microneedling can help by stimulating the production of new skin cells, gradually fading dark spots, sun damage, or melasma, and giving the skin a more uniform appearance.

  • Minimal Downtime. Microneedling typically requires little downtime. While some redness or mild swelling may occur immediately after treatment (similar to a mild sunburn), it usually subsides within 24-48 hours. Most people can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure.

  • Long-Lasting Results. While immediate results may be visible, the full benefits of microneedling are typically seen after a series of treatments (usually 3-6 sessions). The improvements continue to develop over time as collagen production builds, providing long-term skin rejuvenation.

Who can benefit from this?

Microneedling is an excellent option for individuals looking to address a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Acne scars

  • Stretch marks

  • Enlarged pores

  • Uneven skin texture or tone

  • Sun damage or hyperpigmentation

  • General skin rejuvenation

Before undergoing microneedling, it's essential to consult with a trained practitioner to determine if it's the right treatment for your skin type and concerns

What to expect?

  • Before the Treatment: We’ll begin with a consultation to assess your skin type and goals. Our expert practitioners will tailor the treatment to meet your specific needs. Please stop any retinol use 7 days prior to treatment.

  • During the Treatment: The treatment typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated. You may experience mild discomfort, but the procedure is well-tolerated by most clients.

  • Following the treatment, your skin will likely appear red and may have a slight swelling or irritation, similar to a mild sunburn. This redness is a normal reaction and should subside within 24-48 hours. Some people may experience minor pinpoint bleeding, but this is usually very minimal.

  • Aftercare: Post-treatment redness is minimal and typically fades within a few hours - but this can last for 24-48 hours so we ask that you plan this in at a time whereby you can be makeup free and not expose the skin to heat, sun exposure, steam and sauna for this period. It’s essential to keep your skin moisturised and protected with sunscreen. We’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure optimal results.

Number of Treatments?

The number of microneedling treatments required depends on various factors, including your specific skin concerns, goals, and how your skin responds to the procedure. However, in general, most people need a series of treatments to achieve the best and most long-lasting results.

  • For most concerns (e.g., fine lines, acne scars, texture issues):
Typically, 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. These treatments are usually spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart. The reason for multiple treatments is that collagen production takes time and builds gradually. The first treatment stimulates the skin, and subsequent sessions further enhance collagen remodelling, leading to progressively smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.

  • After completing the initial series, some individuals opt for maintenance treatments every 6 to 12 months to sustain the results. These are usually fewer and spaced farther apart, depending on how your skin is maintaining the improvements over time.

Please note: There are factors that influence the number of treatments needed initially such as skin concerns, desired results, skin type and response and also depth of treatment. All these factors can be discussed within your consultation. By sticking to the recommended treatment plan, you’ll be able to see long-lasting improvements in the appearance, texture, and health of your skin.
